Unfolding

Unfolding

When someone asks you to
hold their hand and
jump -- make sure you're holding
onto something firm on the
other side, so that when
you split apart, at least --
you will do so evenly

like little pieces of sticky silly
string stick fascia that prevents
me from folding deep into the
twists and binds

I've tried so hard to grow
longer and think before I settle
but then
you are able to Spread me out
across the axis, the stars, the channels

So I begin to forget, before I know it
joints pop out of places, the sacred structure
spasms at the slightest touch and I am forced
to place my hands on my belly to
find my breath

when I drop back into
the universe for the thousandth
time, you would think I have some
idea of where I am going

but sometimes I just forget to breath
but sometimes I forget that I even
have a head - that
is the only way I am able to stand back up

the only way I can gather myself
zipper myself back vertebrae by vertebrae

every day, I must bring water
to the pool so that I am reminded

when I jump then split apart
there is always more water
